Brief Facts About Tea:
Tea is a
caffeinated beverage, made by steeping the dried leaves or buds of the
Camellia sinensis shrub in hot
water. In addition, tea may also include other herbs, spices, or fruit
flavours.
The word "tea" is also used, by extension, for any
fruit or herb infusion; for example, "rosehip tea" or "camomile tea". In
cases where they contain no tea leaves, some people prefer to call these
beverages "tisanes" or "herbal teas" to avoid confusion.
Major tea types are
classified by processing method:
fermented, or black,
tea produces an amber-colored, full-flavored beverage without
bitterness
Semifermented, or
oolong, tea yields a slightly bitter, light brownish-green liquid;
and
unfermented, or green,
tea, results in a mild, slightly bitter, pale greenish-yellow
beverage
Green tea, long
regarded as healthful in the Far East, has in recent years
attracted much favorable attention in the West for a wide range of
possible beneficial effects.
Second to water, tea is the
most widely consumed drink in the world. So it doesn't
matter if you drink yours hot or iced. Just acknowledge that tea
tastes great.
